The Armoire

Welcome to The Armoire. In the television series every male Orb Hunter has his past and his secrets. In time these secrets are slowly revealed. Even Nyx, despite his genteel manners and noble appearance has his own secrets - his "skeletons in the closet." Though one's privacy should not be breeched so easily, here you may delve and come to understand him better.

Enigmatic, Nyx may be a man of wealth and prestige, but even he has had his darker times. If one were to try to look into his origins and overall past it would come to inconclusive. All that is really known is that he is the owner of the Sunlit Mansion, the founder of the Orb Hunters and is a famous philanthropist. All of this was accomplished in only the past couple of years.

The only person who seems to have an inkling about Nyx's past, other than himself, is an elderly man known as August. August was a friend of Nyx's grandfather fifty years ago. Having met Nyx at a ball with Angelique, August couldn't help but notice the man that day was exactly like his friend from long ago when it came to his voice, expressions and gentleness. In learning this, August wondered if Nyx and his grandfather were one in the same. Angelique determines this is likely true since though August never gave his name, Nyx already knew it.

In truth, Erebos, the root of all evil and the reason why Thanatos plague Arcadia resides as a second soul within Nyx's body. Because of this, Angelique must kill Nyx in order to kill Erebos.

Erebos has plagued Arcadia since ancient times. Before Nyx, Erebos grew stronger by devouring and feeding off the emotions of previous Queen Candidates. While on their journeys the candidates met cruelties and hardships much like Angelique has, only they never had protection and support from a group like the Orb Hunters as she had. Experiencing ostracizing, betrayals and inefficiency, they succumbed to sadness, anguish and despair. Erebos in turn took advantage of this and devoured their negative emotions and grew.

Nyx's case is different. The reason why Erebos entered Nyx's body is because Nyx wished to live. When a young child, Nyx was traveling by ship with his parents. It was possibly off the far coast of Pharia. A terrible storm came that ultimately left them to drown in the sea.

As his young child's form sank deeper into the depths Nyx pleaded to be saved. Like any human being, he didn't want to die, especially not like that at such a young age. His final thoughts were that he wanted to live and would do anything to be saved - by anyone.

Erebos answered his pleas and took Nyx on as a host. With that, Nyx's body began to float back towards the surface, but as this occurred he had to watch the bodies of his parents drift down to the deep below. Due to these events, Nyx's hatred for the sea emerged and even the sound of the waves or smell of the salty air sends him hyperventilating. It will always remind him of when Erebos invaded his body.

Nyx actually stopped aging physically after a while and thus has the appearance and youth of a twenty six year old. He is in truth about two centuries old due to Erebos' interference. Nyx considers his wish to live two centuries ago as greedy and his ultimate weakness, hence why Erebos was drawn to him. From the time Erebos entered him and onwards Nyx has fought the second entity within him constantly for control.

Since that time Nyx was the core Erebos used to send Thanatos into Arcadia. Nyx's willpower slowly was being exhausted through all the years as Erebos continued to grow stronger within him. Nyx knew that one day he'd lose completely to Erebos, thus he only had one hope left. He had to find the Queen of Arcadia, for she would be able to destroy Erebos.

His quest finally led him to Angelique who proved to be the Queen's Egg and thus a candidate for being ruler of Arcadia someday. He put all his hope into her.

Angelique seems to be the first person to cause Nyx to wish to live after spending two-hundred years wishing for death. The time they spent together as Orb Hunter was brief, but Nyx considered that time precious and treasured it. Instead of the desire to die, he now would like to be able to live with her beside him.

Sadly, as his desire to live grew, so did Erebos' power. Knowing that either way he goes he would die, he asked Angelique to give him a peaceful death. Angelique could never conceive of killing him, however.

Nyx told her simply that it is the only way to save Arcadia. He knew he couldn't control his emotions and thus would eventually lose all willpower to Erebos. He knew because as Angelique continued to grow strong Erebos' presence was more potent and harder to resist. The closer the prophesized Queen became a reality the harder it fought and thus took control over Nyx even more. The sooner it took over him, the sooner it would have a physical form, stop the Queen from being born and destroy Arcadia, the world that all the dark emotions it is made up of hated.

Eventually Erebos did overtake Nyx and possessed his body completely. Despite this, Angelique was determined to save Nyx no matter what and would not kill him, but hoped to find a way to banish Erebos from his body. Knowing how much she and the others cared for Nyx, Erebos often used the fact that Nyx's soul still resided in it as leverage and thus used him as a shield often.

Angelique finally overcame the final test of being a candidate by destroying Erebos. She did so by stabbing him completely through with her sword. In doing so she hurt Nyx's body. Erebos finally left it though and Angelique purified it. Regaining control over his form once more, Nyx was ready to die from the fatal wound she inflicted. Instead she told him to live.

Not understanding at first, he asked her how she could ask him to remain in his prison of flesh when he had already roamed Arcadia for two-hundred years. Eventually she made him realize, that the time he spent under Erebos' curse was not living. She wanted him to truly live. And so, she purified him and, like the other Queen Candidates that hadn't made it through their journey, he was sent back to Arcadia to live anew.
