Blind Target

Gundam Wing: Blind Target is also generally accepted as official. Blind Target was first broadcasted on Japanese radio, and then released as a set of two CDs. It was later edited and released as a series comprised of four comics in Japan.


Quatre first appears in chapter "Target-01" on page nine. He and Duo are watching Relena hold an interview on television. They talk about it and around the end of the conversation Quatre wonders how the others are doing. Duo apparently hasn't kept touch either.

From what one can see by this, while Quatre and Duo keep in touch after the Eve Wars none of the other pilots seem to bother. Does this mean Trowa feels nothing for Quatre? It doesn"t seem likely, but with their lives and the dispositions of Trowa, Heero and Wu Fei going out of their way to keep in touch seems unlikely. If anything, this shows that the pilots likely think of each other even though this is only established when it comes to Quatre and Duo.


In "Target-02", it is learned on television that a terrorist bombing occurred at Colony Summit, where the colony representatives gathered to negotiate the problems involved with the entry into the union. Quatre is one of those representatives.

Upon hearing this, Trowa looks briefly away from Kurt with surprise. Soon he regains his composure though and from Kurt's comment, he hints at being the part of the cause that did the bombing. Trowa glares at Kurt and once he leaves, Trowa heads out despite Catherine's insistence to stay.

While Trowa doesn't show utter loss upon the news, with how quickly he leaves, shippers of the two could see it as Trowa heading off to find out the truth in regards to Quatre. Whether it is fueled by friendship or more cannot be determined though.

Some will argue that he turned abruptly, no longer paying attention to Kurt to hear the news, but it can't be proven whether it was because the news affected him deeply or due to concern at Catherine's likely frantic voice.

Even more, there is question of Trowa's priorities. Does he leave quickly because of impending battle starting up again or is it because of concern over Quatre? Could it be both? This scene leaves little to be known and plenty uncertain interpretations.

Still though, Quatre obviously has some sort of importance. Catherine knows how much Quatre has been a part of Trowa's life. Still, the question is... is it due to being brothers in arms, friendship or more? The first two seem the most likely.


Managing to meet up with Duo in "Target-03" page forty-five, Duo leads Trowa to his transport where Quatre is to Trowa's surprise. He soon takes upon his usual expression when Quatre tells him how he can't die when he still has things to do. If one studies his usual façade, they might see him as looking relieved and perhaps the faintest tilt of the lip. That is all speculation though. Still, to back up their feelings, Duo reads it as them taking up time with a joyful reunion.

Still quite vague, this scene would likely be read as two comrades being happy to see each other after a long time and Trowa simply being relieved to find his friend is alive and well. Those who look for more would have to look quite deeply in the scene to find anything that hints to romance. If anything it shows Trowa and Quatre still have a definite bond of some sort.

At the end of "Target-03" on page fifty-six, Trowa, Duo and Quatre arrive at the meeting point where Heero is waiting with Relena and her secretary. Nothing much is shown other than Duo taking the lead and smiling and Trowa and Quatre behind him. Again, a person could read into the fact that Trowa and Quatre seem to be standing closer to each other, but overall it just looks like three comrades smiling down at their other friends.


In the fourth chapter, "Target-04", the group are gathered around discussing what information hey have managed to gather on pages sixty and sixty-one. People who read into positioning would note that Quatre is the one standing closest to Trowa. Still, though the space between them and duo are relatively equal, so that seems to hold no relevance.

A better scene for hints would be on page sixty-three. Trowa is already working on locking the corridors when Quatre soon arrives to help. With simply looking at him, Trowa catching on that something is bothering Quatre. He questions what is bothering him. The other smiles at this but soon becomes solemn as he tells Trowa what the matter is.

While he voices his doubts, Trowa notes what Quatre's true ambitions are. Quatre appears very shocked at his intuition. Trowa continues and says he should continue doing what he set out to do. While not completely at ease, he takes Trowa's words in consideration.

Here you see Trowa's perceptiveness when it comes to Quatre and that in turn Quatre appreciates it. He also confided in Trowa first. Trowa in turn read him well. While there doesn't appear to be anything romantic to the usual viewer, their understanding of each other is notable. A fan of a pairing would likely say that Trowa is sensitive to Quatre like a person who loves him deeply. Still, that is not verified.

The next scene involves Trowa and Quatre capturing Kurt as he breaks in. They question him and Kurt accuses Quatre of betrayal. This hits a sore spot with Quatre and he yells back. Trowa soon places his hand on Quatre's shoulder and the boy calms down despite still troubled.

It seems that Trowa has a soothing ability when it comes to Quatre still and is able to snap him out of becoming too emotional. He is unable to help, but he is there for him. Again, it looks like they have a strong, silent understanding and connection. What sort of connection is not specified.

Despite how often Trowa helped Quatre out, Heero and Wu Fei did as well, so one can see Trowa's concern as a friend and fellow Gundam Pilot. In the end, nothing more than those two relationships can be established.


The last time Trowa sees Quatre is in the last chapter "Blind Target After". Quatre has decided the Gundams should be destroyed now that it is an era of peace. Without them such temptation for war would be minimized. Agreeing, the two set out to tell the other Gundam Pilots. While Duo goes to Heero, Quatre goes to Trowa.

Watching Trowa and Catherine perform from the crowd, Trowa soon spots Quatre as if sensing him. The two then meet outside the lion cages. He asks if it is alright for Quatre to be there alone. Quatre replies he forced the issue and needed to talk to Trowa alone. Trowa asks if it is about the Gundams.

Quatre looks at him slightly surprised but soon smiles. It seems their minds are on the same wavelength. Trowa easily accepts the proposal. Quatre can only be grateful and thanks him.

While the fact that Trowa spotted Quatre immediately out of a large crowd would be promising for those who pair the two together their meeting only being about business. Other than his ability to sense the other, one would likely see nothing from this scene. A shipper of the two might see something though. Duo was the one who went after Heero and Quatre was the one to seek out Trowa. Was the choice of who goes to who a case of preference? Likely, but it could simply be due to being partnered up with the respective pilots more.

Duo mainly worked with Heero in the beginning and Quatre with Trowa. They understand the workings of the pilots they went to meet specifically. Duo had the better chance at convincing Heero and Quatre had the better chance at convincing Trowa. Still fans of Heero and Duo or Trowa and Quatre pairings would be able to say it is more than that without anything to argue it definitely. Nevertheless, nothing is set in stone here either.

A person might shout out about the sudden intuition, but all the Gundam Pilots seem to have it. Quatre had intuition about Duo coming in the beginning of the manga, but Duo wasn't even in the proximity yet. All of them just seem to have a certain knack of knowing when another is nearby.


In the end, there is no solid evidence in Blind Target when it comes to hints of romance between Trowa and Quatre. At best there is a good friendship and possible brotherly affection. Romance, though? Who knows.
